VICTOR, N.Y. - June 1, 2000 - BioWorks, Inc. announced today that it has introduced PlantShield Biological Foliar and Root Fungicide, an EPA-registered broad-spectrum biopesticide for foliar and root disease control for the horticulture market. PlantShield, formulated as a wettable powder, is based on the patented Trichoderma harzianum strain T-22, controls root diseases, including Pythium, Fusarium, Rhizoctonia as well as greenhouse foliar diseases, including Powdery Mildew, Downy Mildew, Grey Mold (Botrytis) and others. PlantShield is a new brand name reflecting the combination of the RootShield Drench and TopShield labels. Commenting on PlantShield's introduction, BioWorks' President & CEO, Bill Foster, stated "We wanted to give the growers an all-in-one product to prevent both root and foliar diseases, providing wide flexibility in using an EPA-registered biocontrol, while at the same time reduce the need for our distributors to inventory two separate products." Mr. Foster went on to note that BioWorks would continue to manufacture and market RootShield Granules, formulated for soil incorporation and topdressing. Mr. Foster noted that PlantShield, like RootShield Granules, has a 0-hour REI (restricted entry interval) and can be applied to all greenhouse-grown crops, including all flowering crops, vegetables and herbs. BioWorks stated that they have submitted state registrations for PlantShield and are working on California registrations, where additional efficacy data is required. BioWorks, Inc., a privately held company, is a leading supplier to the agriculture industry of biological control products and biotechnologies that enhance plant health, plant productivity and consumer and worker safety.
